Default jpg other imports always 96dpi

OK, I've been out of the Xara game for a while and I'm diving back in ;-). So I'm going to be doing some prints and I have some 300 DPI jpgs I've converted from raw cr2. No matter what bitmap I use for import/open it always knocks it down to 96 dpi. I have Xara Xtreme 4.0.1.5601 CD (Xara) Jul 4 2008, and under options Import JPEGs at 96DPI (1:1): is NOT checked. I have tried jpg, png, crs, and tiff all 300 dpi (I checked the porperties of the images) and no matter what I do, it takes them down to 96 dpi (bitmap gallery and status bar show 96 dpi). It must be me, Xara does not like me since I ignored him for a while. Is there anyway to import a bitmap and keep the current dpi setting?

Thanks - former XaraFAQ website guy - LOL.

Not sure why it isn't working for you, but it works perfectly fine for me provided I have the option Import JPEGs at 96DPI unchecked.

Do you get the same result even if you drag'n'drop the image int Xtreme?

    sledger,

Thanks for the reply, yes I have tried drag and droop, file open, and import all with the same results. I may try a full uninstall, delete all reg entries, etc.. and reinstall.

    Dave,

A file that is set for 96 DPI will import as 96. I do not remember if you can have a raw file as anything but. Do not work with RAW files that much. You can check what the internal setting of the bitmap is by opening the file in IRfanview and pressing I (file information).

Irfanview can also be used to batch convert the DPI settings to 300 or whatever you desire. I usually use IRfanview to batch rename shots, and then set the DPI to 300. I typically do this to several hundred bitmaps every week... (I am a photo addict).

The important thing is the resolution.

My digital photos import at 96dpi but if I scale them to 32% the resolution changes to 300dpi which is what I wanted.

if the file is 300dpi at a given pixel size and you import it into xtreme - what is it reported as in the bitmap gallery? [not the info bar - that is 'view size' not the imported image size]

if it is 96dpi and the pixel size has been increased pro rata [by 312.5%] then as John says it may be set to open at that value by whatever created it, and as Gary says you need only reduce it back pro rata [by 32%]

however if it is 96dpi in the gallery and the pixel size is the same as is reported externally at 300dpi then that sounds like a problem
