    Default Tachikawa KI94-I

This was a little project to do a 3 view of an aircraft that was never completed. Designed by the Japanese during WWII and only getting as far as a partially completed wooden mockup before the war ended. This is one possibility of what it may have looked like if it was completed.

    Very sweet Graham!

A P-38 push-me-pull-you. I think I know why that aircraft never got very far. They didn't know which way to taxi...

I know bad joke. Just couldn't resist.

    Top effort as usual Gray.

Are you planning on putting it in a 'dynamic' pose? I only ask because when I was looking it up, it's down as a Recon/Bomber, I assume it would be using hardpoints on the wing for its ordinance. Did your research indicate how it was loaded?

(Sorry, you did say a little 3 view drawing...don't mind me!)

Thanks John. Taxiing could be a problem if you had a hard night before.

Thanks BR, I originally made the 3 view to create a simple model for future perspective use. I have it down as a future project to show it in a graphic scene. The aircraft was developed as a heavily armed, fast interceptor. It would have been used against the B29's. It would have had about 4400 H.P., two 37mm and two 30 mm cannons. Top speed was close to 500 mph at 32000 ft with a range of 1800 miles. It was considered too radical by the powers to be in Japan at that time. It would have been a formidable flying machine though.

Seems fast for those days. I would imagine they would have gotten into a compression problems in a dive.

Nice one, gray, love the subtle highs ans shades.
The japs should have built more Zeros instead, though.

I think you're right Rich, it would have been scary to dive one of these near the speed of sound. It would be a bit disconcerting when your controls locked up.

Thanks Oliver. You're right on the Zero, it was a fine aircraft.

Fascinating piece Gray, I am not usually that much interested in aeroplanes.
Are there any planes similar in respect of the rear propeller which went into successful production as I have never seen such a design?

    Thanks

Thanks Anas. There were similar arrangements in other aircraft of the time in both twin boom and tandem engine arrangement. This one was unique in the use of both elements.

No, the shouldn't have! GM would have been called Toyota now... Hey, wait a minute... Mmm... The GM auto plants might still end up being called Toyota and Honda come mid-2009. <- auto industry 'bailout' joke...

Graham, amazing vector work. Just seeing your vector outlines makes me dizzy. How many layers do you use for an image like this?!

As a side note, "japs" might not be quite right but I take it as a historical reference, as it related to a 1940s image. I'm sure no "ill" was meant.

    Cheers.
