    Post Spirals...

    Hi there,

I know how with the assistance of a graphics tablet I can draw a spiral-type shape with smoothing set to 100% - fine.

However - I can't draw 'evenly' for the life of me! I just want to be able to create a nice, 'even' spiral - that then pulls out at the end, say.

I've tried using the Pen tool that allows you to draw dots to create the shape - I did this too with really tiny gaps between each dot - but still the overall shape is uneven and naff.

This quandary is exactly the equivalent of trying to draw a circle freehand - but you see a spiral is just a line that starts in the centre and moves out a couple of turns - like the line in a snail-shell.

So - what is there to assist in creating a nice even shape - that I imagine gives 'handles' to then push and pull if needed.

I hope the question makes sense and that you can help!

    Thanks in advance,

    Arif

Xara doesn't have a tool to create spirals, but you can download one for free from the Xara Xone, It is called SPX, created by Dmitry one of the regular members here. I have used it with Xtreme pro 4 with no problem.

Here is a link to a spiral maker for xara.
    It works very well.

    Hey - absolutely awesome dudes!!

What an amazing resource this forum is!

You know - I needed this doing because of a website design project, and had got so desperate two nights ago...figured that my freehand version of a spiral was okay - and that it was just my using the mouse to try to draw it that was scuppering me.

So got a Wacom Bamboo graphics pad in the post today - and still no joy.

Hence coming here as last resort - I should have known better!

So - thanks again - absolute lifesavers (cheques in the post...)!

Serif Drawplus (free) gives this version of a spiral which you can use in XX as a vector:

I find it helpful to make use of the Workbooks listed in XaraXone.com. I found four workbooks that deal with spirals: Workbooks 5, 22, 37, and 48. There may be more; I only spent five minutes on it.

Example of what can be done using the above mentioned.

    salaam,

What version of Drawplus are you using to produce a spiral that can be exported, or copied and pasted, into XX and have it retain its vector format? I downloaded the 'free' Serif Drawplus V4 and, so far, have only been able to get a spiral into XX4 or CD_X3 as a "Photo 'WMF Bitmap'" file type/format. What's your secret?

    Thanks,
    HayTay

    XXP/E3

WMFs can be segmented. Dmitrys spirals aren't.
