Default Please help me reverse-engineer an image

Hi. I'm a PSP XI user and have spent the last few days trying to figure out how I created an image I made a few months ago. I have made some progress but have run into a wall. Those here who frequently use the options under the effects menu may be able to help. The following images have been scaled down to 1024x724 (I think detail is important here) from 1870x1323.

This is the image I'm trying to recreate:
    http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/9153/originalke4.png

It looks like the first step I did was to apply a simple single-repeat, linear gradient over the whole image to get this:
    http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/7864/startlp8.png

Then used the wave effect (vertical only, 4 amplitude, 10 wavelength, wrapped edge) to get this:
    http://img528.imageshack.us/img528/3112/wavefz1.png

At some point during the creation of the 1st image linked, that I applied the displacement map with the following settings: map-Hatch fine (Corel_15_021.bmp), tiled, 160% size, 15 blur, 3D surface, 100% intensity, 0 rotation. But applying the displacement map with these settings after the wave stage gives me this:

    instead of this:

Here is the difference between the 2 images (after brightness 115, contrast 100 adjust) if it helps:

So my question is, what do you think I did between applying the wave and applying the displacement map? It looks like some sort of woodgrain effect with the wave repeated above & below the centre but I can't figure it out. Please help me.

This thread is a good example of why we do not recommend hotlinking to external image hosts.

Please read the forum guildelines regarding post attachments.

    Thanks
