You can't go wrong with Modo!

Modo is nice, but at the price it better be good. Just not something I would suggest for someone just trying 3D to see if it fits into their toolbox.
For modeling Wings3D is a pleasure to use and is free.
Truespace 7.6 is free and includes the ability to model, texture, and render.
Blender is also free. I have not tried the new Alpha release, but the original interface wasn't something I found interesting or easy to use.
For myself, I prefer Cinema 4D; but it is not free and too expensive for someone just starting out.

I'm a LONG time user with trueSpace.
It's cool to see a lot of people still use it.
I still use 7.6 mostly for my scifi vehicles and starships. I got used to the interface a while back and I do a lot of modeling within it quite quickly. Tho I tend to swing back to my 6.6 version.
If anyone has Q's about it, feel free to ask me.
Soquili:
Try some of the IBL presets for lighting you will get a nice effect for lettering like that.
Tho I model in trueSpace, I prefer to texture in Carrara. trueSpace's UV tools are really not very good and seems to be the weakest part of the entire program. The only other thing people should know is the ctrl and shift keys work opposite as compared to most 3D modeling programs.

No prob, I'll swap that out then, its on my own server
erg, I guess I cant, I seem to be past the edit time allowance.
Thanks for the info Magnatude.
Unfortunately I have not had time to devote to working with Truespace.
Too many applications and not enough time.

At this point I think Blender for FREE is would be the route to go if just starting out in 3D. The program is maturing by leaps and bounds and the newest version has a new UI.
re: Truespace 7.6 manual
Hi! Soquili,
I too searched for the manual and thank you for the link.
Kindest regards
