    Ummm Steve,

DOF works with both the foreground and background. The attached cross illustrates this very well. The top of the cross is out of focus, the center stones are in sharp focus and botttom of the cross is out of focus. The cross was at a slight angle (about 75 degrees). So the shallow depth of field was captured nicely in this shot.

I was on a cigar site and they were talking about cigar screen savors. I thought that this would be a good effect for that. Thanks for the tips.

Here are those fly chains again.
Even having read about grasshoppers and crickets, I still don’t know which this is.
Grasshoppers are usually green and are diurnal and crickets are usually brown and nocturnal.
The one I’ve got here is brown and diurnal.
    Saludos,
    Bob.

PRetty nice Bob, but the feet ruin the effect. The feet are against the chains, and thus should be at least a little blurry. For example, look at the 3 legs in the foreground of the spider. They are all slightly out of focus.
