Thanks, Ivan - I didn't explore far enough... of course, filters are an Effect.

Once again, you've helped me penetrate the fog of Inkscape's interface... or my own fog. Or both.

Found accidentally how to warp turbulences at the edges of the shapes...!

It's now commited for next snapshot in Filters "Materials" submenu as 3D Wood amongst some other novelties.

    Enjoy,

Sorry for the ignorant question but I just have to ask because these are so interesting. When I upzip, they are SVG files. XaraX won't open or import them. I get a message that there are no file in the HTML file.

Are they suppose to be opened in Inkscape then exported to XX?

Inkscape exports also nice transparent png which are easy to use in Xara.

In last update of the filters menu you will find a "Basics" submenu on top of the list which contains the very basic effects for a daily use or to easier build new filters. Probably available in tomorrows snapshots for windows users.

    kindly,
    ivan

Just playing with two Turbulence textures overlays ("Scotland" which simulates the scottish hills out of the fog, overlaid by "Garden of Delights", a fractal evocating this painting from Hieronymus Bosch).

Incredible what svg fractals can do !

Figurative fractals again... Search the man's face with a beard and a hat, and elsewhere some primroses.

Just a setting of the "Mother of pearls" filter I added this evening.

    enjoy,
    ivan

Scotland, Bosch and your new fractals - do you think these will be going into Inkscape builds as well?

    Endlessly interesting.

Curiosity questions: is there a way to apply the Figurative Fractals with any choice of kernel images -- assuming the man with the beard and the primroses are not accidentals?

Is there a way to dial down the apparently random excursions beyond the outline of the alphabet (in other words, retain the rounded, beveled look and the colorful fill, but make it a bit more regular in outline)?

How these are done is completely beyond me -- I make nothing of Inkscape's Filter builder interface -- so any enlightenment would be welcome.

Thumbs up Re: SVG effects for Inkscape as a companion for Xara

It's fascinating to see, what great creativity and advantages such open functions are bringing. You can see it with each software, who offers some methods to extend the builtin functions.

I'm sure, this will bring the Inkscape project a lot of new fans.

    Great work, Ivan!

    Remi
