Ivan, which version of Inkscape are you using?
[I did try several of the latest development builds (for Win XP), and these all seem to have severe problems with bitmap handling.]

The last one I can use correctly under my XP is the 20009. However now and from two days I use the regular 0.46 on Ubuntu I installed togheter with my XP... and it works much better there...

    Ivan,

I must join in and agree with Juergen when he said, in part:

"It was great fun, both entertaining and informational for me.

Your image in post #72 is DELICIOUS!

I've actually loaded Inkscape on to my Linux (Ubuntu) machine too. It works so well there I've not bothered to get the Windows version yet and now perhaps I won't. I must now spend more time on the Xara/Inkscape interaction!

    Thanks for this great thread.

    Thanks a lot !

I have the same impression with Inkscape on Ubuntu : no crashes, commands always accessible, quick reply, better display, even if it's not so much quicker. However if you don't use a development version of Inkscape, the filters will render and export somewhat lighter and slightly differently, like if they were applied with less intensity.

    Kindly,
    ivan

Those who downloaded the latest snapshots of Inkscape 0.46 devel this week perhaps noticed that now my filters are available directly from the menu Filters.

There are a lot of new ones including colorizing filters, outlines smoothing...

I am discussing and working with the developers who will add some more filters management facilities. I will explain in another post how you can insert your own filters in the menu and even create your own sub menus. But it's late now here and I must go to bed ...!

    kindly,
    ivan

Ivan, I'm so lost in inkscape - I downloaded the latest Win32 version (I think - Inkscape 0.46+devel r20655, built Feb 9 2009) and it doesn't have a Filters menu.

Nothing is listed under Object > Filter Editor...

Maybe the version you referenced is the Linux/Unix version?

Dave, at the moment you must go by Effects/Filters and you will find them in the menu. Sorry, I wasn't clear enough.

Soon a new direct access by a new menu Filter will be available.

    kindly,
    ivan
