When the text is along the curve,
simply ctrl+select the line(curve) and set the line color to none
This way the text is still editable and your text has an outline
If you want to change the curve to the text, simply select all and change the linecolor(shift+click color),it turns visible.
Make your adjustments and ctrl+select the curve line only and set the color again to none

Using Hans method to keep an outline, there is a simpler way to edit the curve: Drag the view quality slider all the way to the left to wire frame view, now you can see your line and edit it. When you are done drag the view quality slider back to the right.

Text onto a curve without the funny voice, people from Essex are notoriouslly hard to understand, it would have been easier if he was from say Newcastle where they speak much clearer.
Not as funny as the words emiting from my mouth in the past 2 weeks as I've tried to install a new computer Masque

This is what I do to subtract and add a line to curve text.

To get rid of the original curved line click on object and remove the line. This will get rid of the curved line as well as the line around the text.

To add line to text, select the text tool, highlight the text and then add your line.

    This works for me,

Also having selected your text on its curve, you can press F4 to select only the line the text is on and then click the hashed box to select no line. I find this keyboard shortcut useful.
