Hi all, I am new to web design so please forgive my ignorance. Is there a way to display an icon next to your site if it is bookmarked in favorites? I noticed some sites have this, and I would like to do it.

    Thanks

    This is really only a-nice-to-have!

Having googled your query, this looks as good a description as anywhere:

    Hi Zodd
As Simon has suggested do a web search on
favicon.ico and you will find many pages with information on this.
    Some samples.

    http://www.webookmark.com/favicon.jsp
    http://home.san.rr.com/a1html/faviconinfo.html

But it does not seem to work too well in IE 6. anymore. But when I use Firefox
    http://www.firefox.com/
    my favicon.ico file works great.

    Welcome Zodd
Fav.icons are fun to make. If you have XaraX you can create 16x16 pixel drawings (which are not as easy to draw due to the limited pixel count) Then you can use Sean's freeware BMP2ICO to convert the drawing to an .ico file. If you place this file in your root directory, named favicon.ico, the icon displays in the visitors favourites icon if they bookmark your site.
My current Avatar is a collection of ico's I have created this way.

It can be much easier to create icons, liquid icon (www.x2studios.com) is free and has a capture tool, just box in the picture and poof. Snag it 7 does the same, just save as a .ico
An example of a liqiud icon capture:
