    Default Letters and 3D

It appears a word once modified to a 3D effect that a letter cannot be changed or am I missing something!!
And it looks like I will have to get a faster computer as moving a 3 word caption that has shadow and 3D applied takes for ever:-((

So long as you haven't converted the text to editable shapes, the work can be edited if you first remove the extrude. Once removed, you can edit the word, then reapply the extrude.
It cannot be edited whilst an extrude, because the extrude is basically a raster effect.

A note to what Sledger said above: If you click the 3D button on the infobar, it will temporarily remove the extrude. You can then edit the text, and click the 3D button again to reapply the previous extrude - No matter how complex - No additional settings are required.
