Default Diffusion Curves (Siggraph 2008) - drool!

Something very interesting - and commercially potential - from Siggraph:

Quicker and simpler than gradient meshes. Xara could step miles ahead of its competition by purchasing this technology and implementing it into Xara Xtreme, no?

Here is the official page of the paper, and you can also download a Windows implementation of the curve drawing tool:

Just tried the application myself. It crashed occasionally, and I couldn't get some of the mentioned features (blur, load bitmap) to work. Anyone else having problems?

After having my initial enthusiasm fade out a little, it looks like this is not an end-all solution, but something like this would be quite a convenient tool.

How does it fail to work? Does the executable not start at all? You need to extract the ZIP with the correct sub-folder structure, I think.

only time for a very quick look - I like the basic idea of this if I understand it right

it is slow, in screen rendering for example, and it hogs resource a bit I think - but no actual crash - a basic implementation..

However I doubt this technology will be implemented out of Adobe programs because one person of the staf who publish the paper come from Adobe Systems...
