Ok Adey - that's a good first attempt

the points I would make here have been well covered by Bob's two tutorials [thanks Bob ]

perhaps if you read and work through these, and if/when you have queries we will help further

    Well done Bob.
They should help newcomers grasp the basics.

If you have webspace with your ISP, you could upload the .pdf files and link them in your signature? Just a thought.

    Excellent tutorials Bob.

If you want to add links to the tutorials in your signature:

You can link either by linking to this thread, your one post within the thread, or to the pdf files themselves by using the url shown in the properties when right clicking (using IE) on the attachment.

    Hi Bob

And thanks for the tutorials - I do however, get a little lost (surprise surprise!). On my logo I am trying to lose everything except the crest, so is there a simple way of losing all the 'greenery' and the writing?

Sorry to all of you who are experienced and having to deal with a dumb newbie!

    Hi Adey

    Basic principle:

using the black shape you pasted up in your xar file

1] copy and paste this into xara 3D

2] import your original image into xara 3D as a texture - do not worry about what you do not need in the image at this stage

3} as you can see - not a good fit, adjust the y [and x if necessary] position
    to get it central

4] adjust the size to make it fit

EDIT: - all these adjustments are made in xara 3D, using the 'texture options'

in practice the above is often a fiddle - which is why it is usual to 'cut-out' the parts of the image you are going to use in xtreme, so they fit better from the start - plus as you can see the green overlaps onto the edge, which may not always be acceptable

however hope this shows you what is actually being done here

Hi Adey, yes it is simplicity itself. You have already done the hard part.
With your shield outline placed over the shield, select the shield outline and holding down the shift key on the keyboard, also select the green area, they are now both selected. Go to the arrange menu and select Combine Shapes and on the flyout menu select Intersect Shapes, or simply press the control key and 3 to achieve the same effect.
    Saludos,
    Bob.

Hi Bob - we posted same time

I have edited my post slightly

One thing about using the cut-out method Adey - if the shape that is drawn does not match 'exactly' the required part of the image to be used as texture, there may still be some adjustments to be made in xara 3D...

Steve and Bob you are both too kind to a complete dunce.

Thank you for your patience with me.
