    Default Another Frontpage Problem runtime error

    I just went to Vista, no problems before. In Frontpage 2002, any of my websites with Xara navigation, when I click on Preview I get a box that pops up with a runtime error. http://www.michiganimaging.com/Capture.JPG
    If I delete the navigation, no error. If I preview the page in a browser, the navigation works. I've uninstalled Frontpage and reinstalled, no different. Any suggestions why this is happening on all my projects? Is the problem with Frontpage or Webstyle?

    It also does the same thing with a new project. I made a single page with just navigation and I get the same error.

    Jim what do you get if you click the Yes button to debug?

    Have you examined the html source code to see what the invalid character may be?

    Both applications are legacy apps built to run under different operating systems.
    Frontpage no longer exists (replaced by Expression Web) and I don't believe Webstyle has been updated with Vista support in mind either.

    I'd suggest trying to run them in Compatibilty mode (for WindowsXP) or updating to Vista compatible software.

    Microsoft maintain a list of Vista certified software here.
    Applications that Works with Windows Vista list here.

    Yikes...
    If I click through (twice on either button) it will then show the page, but without the navigation.

    Jim that is normal behaviour for Frontpage.

    Can you post your html file that has the problem?

    I looked up Vista on xara.com. It will run:

    Xara Webstyle 4 on Windows Vista
    Webstyle requires you to install, unlock and initially run the program using an account with administrative access. The download version will not run without administrative access.

    Installing:

    When installing the program from a non admin account, the user account control window will be displayed requesting an administrative login to continue.

    Unlocking

    If you are unlocking Webstyle from a non admin account then please right click on the exe and select to run as administrator.

    Failure to do so will result in the download version displaying the message ‘To run this webstyle trial, you need to have administrative rights on this pc’

    The CD version will request your serial number on each occasion that the program is run if it has not previously been unlocked using an account with admin access and can also fail to register the dll's used by the program.

    Running

    Right click on the desktop shortcut and select ‘Run as administrator’ This is required only once even if you are accessing the program from an account with admin access. Failure to do so will result in DLL Error messages being displayed.

    Webstyle 4 CD will run from an account with non admin access.

    Yes I will post it on another reply.

    Here is the html, just made the navigation, it's not one of the old files.

    <html>

    </head>

    Jim the problem appears to be within Frontpage caused by Vista's security features.

    I installed Frontpage 2003 and the Webstyle addon on my system. Trying to preview within Frontpage generates an error regardless of which compatibility mode I tried.

    The saved and published web page displays the navigation correctly.

    As Sledger posted, both Frontpage and Webstyle are older applications and were never designed to be Vista compatible. Loss of the preview feature may be a PITA but not a total show stopper.

    Thank you everyone for your efforts. I'm trying to like Vista but it's fighting me all the way. I'm getting off-topic, but does anyone have a recommendation for WYSIWYG web design software (not expensive)? Should I just go back to XP and continue using what I know? I've spent 5 DAYS transferring all my files, drives, applications to this new machine but I'm up against a wall with this Vista. It's 11pm my time, so that's about 12 hours today fighting this. Any input would be greatly appreciated!!
