    Default Too Much Shine

I've created what is know in the sim racing community as a car skin (paint job) for a Porsche 914-6 GT(in case anyones interested).

It shines too much when the skiin is installed in the game (rFactor).

So I would like to reduce the shine some, I understand that something called Alpha Channels would do the trick. I think that is some sort of adjustment layer that I save with the file into the formate understood by the simulation (a .dss file).

Any suggestions on how I might go about reducing the shin...and maybe putting some dirt on it. Some things shin more than others and should, would want to retain that difference.

Any thoughts on how to do this?

    Thanks, Mike

I would duplicate the layer and then apply a Gaussian Blur to minimize the shine. You can then adjust the opacity of the blurred layer to suit.
    Merge.
    Or
You could try adding some Noise to a third layer:
Adjust>Add/Remove Noise>Add Noise and apply a Gaussian Blur to that.
Then experiment with the layer opacity.

    hello..same as Mike,I'm working on IL2 Shturmovik
1946 & 'skinning' WWII aircraft for sim.I'll definately
give your suggestion a try as trying to create a
    matt/dirty finish.

    hello..(Mike Victor) try www.mission4today.com
and browse the downloads section. There's a 'Bright Tool'
which might interest you & your problem with too much shine.
I have a texture file which could be added to the layers
which you can self adjust to reduce shine.
I got this tip off from a Pro-Skin Artist M4T.
Certainly follow the previous posts as tried & tested.
As I'm a limited user of this forum if you PM me your e-mail
I'll certainly zip file the texture file myself
