    hi frances
maybe the flag sould have some lighter and darker areas to make it mode 3d
and maybe you can use stroke (line thickness) to make fireworks more realistic
(but these are just my thoughts)

    EDIT:
i was curious how it will look like
it's not good... but it' just a few minutes work

    Hi Frances
I think your wallpaper looks great. Only it seems to be a little dark ? Maybe it can be made a little brighter and more contrast.

I finally had time to get back to this I lightened the background, reworked the fireworks and added shadows and highlights to the flag. Thanks for all the helpful suggestions

    Frances,

If you would like to use a photo of real fireworks, you are welcome to "borrow" a shot or two from my site. No commercial use please. Just apply them as a bleach transparency...

whatever you say - now it looks better

    have a look here
you can see fireworks are more 3d
they spread in all directions (also to_you and off_you)
so rays have to be longer and shorter

also usually gravity has an influence on fireworks
so they should bend to the ground (you bent them a bit)
(it's not always visible as they can disappear faster)

Well done frances. I like the shading you've added to the flag.
