VERY cool. I could easily see that on a coffee shop cup sleeve. Nice work indeed.

They look really flat. The text does have a curve but it still just looks pasted on top of a 'cup'.
Cups also don't have pure black thick outlines around them (1,2 and 3) It will just accentuate the much lighter pixels around it since it's not a straight line.
And really, a linear gradient isn't suddenly going to make an object look like it has depth.
The rim of the cup also curves away from the light so that needs a shadow side as well.
And why is there a glow shadow around the strait logo middle thingy?
.

They look good on the cups Frances.
Very good. Nice to see the black and white and the color versions.

Nice designs Frances.
I like to create concentric circles, squash them down into two sets with the more open ellipses at the bottom. Then create a blend to get the ellipses for the label or in this case the sleeve.

Yes I used a similar method to Gary's for a paper cup on this ficticious 'Mochalete' brand.
Francis for the rim, I used a thick hollow ellipse converted to a shape which is then cloned a few times for the light shading. Clones are feathered, nudged upwards or downwards then a linear transparency applied from top to bottom, or botton to top (depending on which shade is being worked on). The group of rims are then Clipviewed (Q) which removes the overflowing feathered bits of the shapes.
Everything else created in Xara of course, using only the basic tools.
Thank you all for your comments and helpful tips. Steve I like the idea of using a thick hollow elipse for the rim. I was trying to construct my rim in a similar way but my thoughts were a) that only the side of the rim facing you would be visible and b) the front of the rim and the front of the cup are layered over the elipses that make up the back of the cup and the coffee, allowing for the insertion of the straw and ice cubes for the iced coffee.
