    I’m assuming that Photoshop works the same way as PSP, and that after saving as a .psd file,
    the previously vectorised text is rasterised on reopening, hence the “jaggies”. Of course, the
    image attached of the Xara version will show jaggies at it is posted here as a .jpg file.

    Yeah spot on Bob.

    The image zoomed in at 400% showing the paint shop pro image in it's native file format is the one I am getting.

    In that case, Jeff, I don't think there's anything for it but to get
    yourself a copy of Xara Xtreme. There's a free 15 day trial
    available here. It will do most things to photos that Photoshop and
    PSP do, except push pixels around with the clone brush/stamp tool.
    Text on photos is so easy, and the effects you can create are at least
    as good as the above-mentioned programs, the price is good too.
