    Default Email Links -

Tried help/index and find nothing on how to make a hot email link in Xtreme and did search here and also find nothing.

I used web address and put in the email address but it does not work - also, the text is not blue OR underlined as it says it is suppose to be. (It IS underlined in Xara but not on the web - no blue in either place.)

    Suggestions?

    Tks - jb

highlight the text you want to hyperlink using the selected tool.

ctrl + shift + w brings up the hyperlink diagogue box

enter the mailto:something@hotmail.com address in the URL field.

To sort out the underlining, put a tick in the 'Underline text links' box in the bottom left hand corner of the same dialogue box.

    That'll do it.

In my eyes a hyperlink dialog box without further help to set a "mailto" link is dumb, not the users.

I covered this on Page 4 of the HTML Workbook plus how to add an automatic subject line in the recipient's e-mail program.

    Remi - I agree.

In practice putting an email link on any form of HTML document is not the best of ideas. The spam robots will find it and your email address will likely become virtually unusable within a year.

A far better idea is to create a button in Flash and make that link to an email address (you can even make it look like a link if you like as the spambots just trawl the HTML).

Alternatively use some kind of form for making contact, although NOT the common formmail one that's generally available around the web as that usually requires the email address to go into the HTML.

The flash button/link route is by far the most preferable as it does end up in the sending of an actual email, whereas the form route invariably doesn't and relies on the user having to actually know and input their own email address correctly, and in my experience an awful lot of them get it wrong.
