Draw a white filled shape over the area you need to lighten (dodge), then feather it slightly and apply transparency until you reach the level you desire.
Group the image and shape, then export as new bitmap.

    Hi

Actually, I do this all the time. I just clone my photo and then add a linear transparancy set to bleach, and then reclone as many times as necessary, if you wish you can change the direction of the transparancy inbetween clones. The included sample has been cloned three times on top of the original......frank

    you can try this:

make the clone and give bleach as Frank [seagull] suggests - group these and make a bitmap copy
place this bitmap copy over a copy of the original bitmap and give a linear transparency to the top one [EDIT: typo: need to give transparency to the top one regardless or you wont see the bottom one ] - or both - need to experiment here depending on what you want to achieve

Sledger and Seagull, I am having no success with either of your methods. However, using the Photo Enhance and Clip tools and pasting the clipped piece on top of the original photo and feathering as desired gives some nice results.

Sure Bob, we all have our own methods.
Of course very much depends on the original source file. But I find my methods satisfactory for many tasks.

Thanks, Sledger, for the tut. I just couldn't get it to work. Placing the white rectangle BEHIND the photo is quite interesting.
Playing around with the Photo Enhance, Clip (crop), and then Slice or Intersect tools can produce some interesting effects also.
(I can't even come close using Frank's method to get the brightness and clarity that he did.) [Oops! I just did, after re-reading his directions. I wasn't cloning the original to start with. BOTH of your techniques are great! Thanks, guys!]
