... have no fear. It took me 1 hour to draw ... I'm getting used to using brushes well now and am enjoying it. Colour and tone and feeling are easy when you stop and think about it and add it to the picture as well as the form.

The picture is of one of my favourite writers.

    It is inspiring !
Going to have to look more closely at brushes,
though I am far from being a portrait artist like yourself.
Do you do your portraits from a reference ?
Hope you keep posting from time to time, they are like
rain showers on a parched desert.
    You got my respect.

Excellent John! It must have taken some planning time cos I find the brushes a pain in the ass. You get the brush that you want in one colour and then you have to jump through hoops to change the colour and this is one area which has got to be improved.
    Design is thinking made visual.

No, it's really easy I find now I've found the way to do it ... I'll post a video of how I create my brushes in about 1 hour! Stay tuned as they say!

Look forward to that JA thanks.

Like Peter I have always found the xara brushes pretty difficult to use for painting.

Very good portrait - great to see such work here

Your Diana gif is almost giving me seizures --but your drawing is amazingly calming. Beautiful. I'm looking forward to the video as well. Thanks for posting your artwork. Maybe you can post a xar file of a future example ( not necessarily of this one )? The one hour thing is interesting... I don't think I can finish a hamburger and a Bitburger in an hour sometimes...

I can understand the speed - when I draw cartoons I have to work fast - it all goes pear-shaped otherwise.

I see 'vector drawing' as very precise and painstaking - one of the reasons I imagine that a quick tool like xara is really appreciated.
But 'painting' can be executed very quickly once the idea is in your head - for me anyway, like cartooning - but few vector tools around to do this in.

Be interesting to hear your take on that JA
