Thanks for this Salaam - I hadn't considered that someone might have made it that easy! I downloded jardotty from This page and hey presto! All I needed to do was to adjust the tracking to space the letters out a bit.

    Thanks for all your help.

glad its sorted - good solution

now that I see what you mean - what I would call stroking the pattern [dots] along the path [shape] I don't believe xara does this - you can only give the outlines the pattern as you have found. Fills don't work that way.

as for converting shapes to lines - if anyone knows how I'd be grateful to hear too

You could use this method :

Drawing on top of a thin font is much easier.

And of course you could draw the entire font and stock it to re-use the characters you created.

    nice freehand method Ivan

    following on:

guess there's no chance of getting single stroke fonts into xara ?

In Freehand there is another method which is called "inline graphics". You can recall any drawing as a character inside a text line. Thus you can create your own stroke characters and apply all text settings to them (kerning, etc).

If someone (perhaps Access ...) could imaginate some kind of simple text editor, even external, which could import Xara strokes through the clipboard, use them as characters, then re-export them to Xara by the same way ! That could be a fantastic solution ...!

    ivan
