    Default Slice and dice

In another thread (Mugs...) Sledger mentioned he used the slicing feature of XPro. I subsequently tried it and liked it, but now I am wondering if it is any advantage over simple cut and paste and feather? Am I missing something here? I don't want to delve into the ability of slicing regarding uploading smaller pieces of a picture or for sections to be mapped, but rather would like to hear how you guys/gals use this feature in everyday drawings. If I want to blend two faces together, how is slicing different from cutting out with the shape editor tool what you want and then pasting it onto the other face and feathering?

None.. you have just 'sliced' with the shape editor.

I've created a mini-tutorial showing how I achieved the MUG-SWAP effects in the thread mentioned by Bob.

I hope this is of some use to somebody

Neat tutorial, Steve. I like the "TGT?" logo too.
I already knew how to slice 'n' dice, but it was useful
to be reminded of the XPEditor, too often I've exported some
work as a .jpg then opened up PSP X to work on it there.
Then import it back into XXP. XPE certainly cuts out the
middleman. I know it's not a popular part of Xara to some,
but it's certainly a time-saver for things like this.
EDIT: By the way, the end result looks like a young Peter O'Toole.
    Saludos,
    Bob.

Yes, thanks for taking the time to make that tutorial, Sledger.

So, as I understand it, you use slice to get the same results I do using Intersect. There's really no difference, just preference, although slice leaves the rest of the image onboard.

Are there any other uses or advantages of using slice (other than what I mentioned in post #1)?

I usually refer to drawing an outline and intersecting as slice and dice myself. If I need both parts I slice, if I only need one I intersect, if I need the other I subtract.

Nice tutorial Steve. You can get a similar effect using an elliptical transparency with some profiling.

It doesn't work so easy the other way around. Cage has a thinner face.
