    Default Punch Out Effect (??)

Can anyone tell me what the effect or graphic is called that is usully seen on posters and looks like the paper has been punched out with torn edges? Usually it looks like there is something coming out of this effect, ie a barrel racer or some type of activity. Does anyone know what I mean and how I can do or find this??? Thanks

Do you mean that it looks like something is breaking through the paper ?

There's an example on the CorelDraw X3 splash screen when
    loading the program.
Heres a screenshot of the X3 box, which is really good, I think.
    Saludos,
    Bob.

With a little patience and work (AND FUN) this is actually something we can do with Xara. Here's a start, no fine details done, just a start to see what's possible. Simple shapes, simple linear fill. More time and patience could do wonders.

If you are looking for a PhotoShop plugin that will do this for you, then you migh be out of luck, I think. It would be a little harder to automate than simple 'page curls'.

Something like the 'breakout' CorelDrawX3 graphic would be reasonably straight forward to manually create using some basic drawing tools and graduated fills.

edit: Snap Bob! We both gave it a quick shot - you beat me too it
