Bruce, yes... I am back to 0.45 as well. Could be something I did wrong involving the lxml wrapper.
I reported the bug, but was asked by the developer in charge of that specific area to gather my info to support the report... which makes me shiver because I am actually quite confident it wasa mistake on my end... but then again.... for the sake of dummy users like myself.... that lxml issue should be resolved within the program itself and not even be an issue at all
But, these things are common ground in the real world of new releases and updates.

But that still does not make me feel confident that this guy is not going to give me a well deserved thrashing

darn it.. sorry I hit the button before addressing Steve

I am glad for you because usually the most bugs are within the Windows builds

oh it has a few glitches sure - most of the last minute ones were in the windows version because they are short of windows developers I understand - but they are not causing me problems - when did inkscape never have glitches?

K, I didn't read the whole thread so don't kick me if I've said things that have been said before. I'll respond to Availor's original questions:

What do you think of that?
Inkscape has some great graphics, but I haven't been able to export from inkscape to xara. Xara doesn't have svg import filters.

IMO Xara is at least 10 times better: it's more intuitive where inkscape is a pain in the butt if you wanna find certain features. And its tools and interface are very complicated to use. Above all, Inkscape's rendering is so slow that I wouldn't even want to bother using it unless absolutely necessary. I've tried to use Inkscape for some wikipedia images I was making but found it too time-consuming to use and it didn't have all the features I needed.
IMO Inkscape is nowhere near as good as Xara, unless you want to concentrate on SVG work

you can export pdf from inkscape to xtreme pro

inkscape 046 has one tool xara does not have fill bounded shapes
aka vector bucket fill - shapes do not have to be closed and it works on bitmaps

its bitmap tracer is much better for line artwork

it has a live path effects tool that looks very promising

but for actual drawing drawing so to speak xara is way ahead still
