cannot re-create spinning 3d flower

Several years ago I created this gif of a spinning flower with a different version of Xara, now lost. I just bought Xara3d6, but cannot get it to import any 2d files except the ones that came as samples with the program. I have followed the posted tutorials very closely, but my installation will not import any 2d files, whether *.wmf or otherwise. They are simply ignored.

I also notice that several sample 2d files seem to be incorrectly labeled in my new 3d6 installation. For example, "Loco.xar" imports as the letter "P". "Lifebelt.xar" imports as "a". "Key.xar" yields the letter "A". And "Tulip.xar" yields the letter "U".

I suspect that I used Tulip.xar when I created the spinning logo in the previous Xara 3d program.

Am I missing something? Any comments welcome.

My goal is to re-create the spinning tulip and somehow have the monkey image melt into a different image while still spinning. i would also like to have different images on opposite sides, like a coin.

As far as I am aware, the Xara 3D files should have an .x3d extension. xar files are XaraX/Xtreme 2d files.

Could you supply the full path name to these files Flores?

It does appear that Xara3D6 was shipped without the Sympol TT.ttf font file. The .xar files you mentioned used shapes from that font.

Keith Xara3D includes many 2D shapes in .wmf, .xar, and .web file formats.

Egg the path to the files Flores mentioned:
C:\Program Files\Xara\Xara3D6\Samples\2D shapes\Sympols

Note: the typo error Sympols is by Xara, I simply copied and pasted the path as shown in Windows Explorer


A work around is to open the SympolsSymbols2.x3d file in the same folder the Loco.xar, Key.xar, etc files are located. You can copy each shape and paste it into a new .x3d document to be saved for future use.
