As far as I know, Xara doesn't have any method to stroke a fill to a path, so why are you even bringing it up? Given that this ability doesn't exist within Xara, I believe I was correct in reading your post as I did.

it was that if xara did offer shapes like that it would change the goal posts for me - but the shape fill is just the same as a clipview fill - both are masks.

Your train of thought is confusing. Until post 42, we weren't discussing goal posts.

idiomatic use - which may of course differ to yours
meaning it would change the way I look at it

this is going round in circles David - everyone agrees there is no best way

Then how can it be going around in circles? I was simply pointing out that post 32 implied that the method in post 7 gave a different fill characteristic than the method I described, when it doesn't.

David if you mean the above - that is a request for confirmation, not an implication - we are divided by a common language yet again

Aren't we both full of ourselves today? This is no longer helpful to the OP. Goodbye.

Bit late on this one but if you use a wacom tablet you can d/l plug-ins from their site which lets you fill lines with various textures. It works with a mouse also but you don't get the pressure options of course.
