can't use effects actions

In Painter X, whenever I want to scale, distort or rotate anything, the surrounding box appears but it will not let me grab the corner point to do anything. I can scale, etc by entering a number but not manually with the corners. Anybody else ever have this problem? I have re-installed the software and it still does it. Very frustrating.

Provided I use the effects/orientation menu and leftclickdrag on one of the nodes it works for me.
