    Unhappy Solve one get another

    Have a problem.

Used 3DX to make a logo, saved it as a gif into a folder named Xara Graphics so that I could load into dreamweaver, loaded into DW no problem, now comes the problem, I want to alter the logo but Xara will not load the logo back in cos it says file not recognised.

How do I save an animated logo into the folder so that it is recognised by both programs

That's a bugger ! You have to save the file as a X3D (and/or XXP) file too, if not you can't edit. After you've done that you can export as a gif or animated gif.

    Great MarciaB,

But I am an absolute beginer, so how do I do that

When I try to save none of the options given seem to work.

The short answer to that is you can't, sorry.

When you save an animation from xara3D as a X3D document Xara Xtreme will not open this.
You can export the animation from Xara3D as an animated gif and open this in Xara Xtreme and Dreamweaver - but you cannot reopen these as animations in xara3D because they are now bitmaps not textured vectors.

The normal workflow, for me at least, is to save the work done in Xtreme as XAR file and the work done in xara3D as X3D file, and to recreate each animation if you need to make changes, rather than try to modify after the event.

Hope this makes sense and helps

    Hello Bob,

In Xara programs (Xara3D6, Xara Xtreme) the save menu is for saving the native file format for editing at a later time. The File > Export menu is for creating a still image or animation file for use on a web page or other use.

In X3D, click 'File'>'Save as'> give the file a name and save it as an .x3d in your chosen folder. After that : 'File'>'Export' or 'Export animation' and export under the same name in the same folder. That way you can always find the
.x3d file each time you want to change something. After you have applied the changes, just export again under the same name in the same folder. Xara'll ask if you want to replace the file and then you answer 'yes'
All this works the same in XaraXtreme.

Thanks to you all for your replies, guess the only thing left do is experiment and see which is best to work with, FrontPage or Dreamweaver.

    Any advice?

If you want full control... sling the code. If you want ease of use and code bloat, either will do.

And I've never used Frontpage either so can't make a meaningful comparison..
