Mine is to be happier. 2007 was a very difficult year for me. I lost my dad to cancer and I'm still in a bit of a dark place (I had cancer 4 years ago). So, I'd like to have a year without hassle

I resolve to stay alive in 08... I hope I don't break that one.
My resolution is to try to overcome an EXTREME tendency to procrastination. And, no, I'm not waiting till tomorrow to start!

Tim, I wish you well with your weight loss resolution.
Several years ago, I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes, and the doctor told me essentially that I could lose weight or I could start getting ready to check out!
The worst part was giving up all the sweets that I loved so much. When I drank, it was always the sweet drinks that appealed to me. I loved strawberry margaritas, frozen daiquiris, pina coladas, rum and coke, etc.
But that's all in the past.
I lost a grand total of 153 pounds, and while no one would call me skinny, I definitely look and feel a heck of a lot better than I did before. And, being a pretty good cook, I now make GREAT desserts with no sugar, and don't feel very deprived. (A few desserts, like flan and a few others I still haven't managed to duplicate, but I'm working on it!)
Anyway, I went from size 54 slacks to 38. I am living proof that it can be done, and I used no surgery, etc.
It wasn't easy, but if I can do it, so can you.
If you would like some of my sugar-free recipes, send me a private IM and I'll be happy to share. That goes, of course, for anyone else who needs to reduce their sugar intake.

Hi Will,
I too have been diagosed with diabetes.
This time last year my doctor prescribed
twice-daily insulin injections, but after 3 months
they were having very little effect on my blood
sugar levels, which were hovering around 200-250 mg/dl.
Normal levels being in the region of 80 to 120 mg/dl.
My body mass index is average, and the doctor suggested
a change of diet and a regime of fearsome exercise.
The diet thing was difficult for me, because I also have a
cholesterol condition (hereditary) which is controlled by
statins and a low-fat diet.
It seemed I was condemned to a life of vegetarianism,
with the odd meal of steamed fish or chicken. As I don't
like fish, the choices were extremely limited.
Anyhow, the reason I've posted this here rather than as a PM
is that quite by accident I discovered a pretty painless way of
keeping the blood sugar levels low.
I'd read an article that suggested one should have a daily
intake of water of at least three litres a day.
I have followed this since April of last year, and I also monitor my
levels with the Ascensia Breeze machine, which confirms my levels
are now usually around 95 mg/dl. There is the occasional "blip"
Christmas, New Year and Birthday being an example when it has
gone up to around 160 mg/dl, but at least I am in control of it.
The only downside is visiting the bathroom during the night, but
that's a very minor inconvenience. So, the moral of this story is
drink plenty of water each and every day. It may be the answer
for others. Pass it on.
By the way, my doctor told me that I no longer need to inject
myself with insulin - woo-hoo!
Saludos (literally),
Bob.
