I can't understand this 'professional' tag.

I know with Flash MX there were 2 versions, MX and MX Professional. However in Flash8 there was just the one version so why stick to this professional tag?

I don't think it's much more than a marketing gimmick.

Rather like a car - buy a Ford Escort and you're happy.
Until they come out with a Ford Escort XL and then you become dissatisfied and will pay out extra cash for not much more than an XL badge on the bodywork.

    Intebel,

Thats exactly my point. there's a difference between a Ford Escort & a Ford Escort LX.

I don't think it's a Macromedia thing. The name on the CD's etc is just Flash8, but the number of times I see Flash8 Professional! Now we've got Flash9 Professional.

It's similar to the point remi was making in the XtremeLX forum, whereby Xtreme for linux has got about six different names for the same product.

    There is a difference actually:

I can name only some but I'm sure there's much more:

The professional version can use cue points in videos in a more advanced way, and you can use the components, unlike in a basic version.

I am sure there is much more than these to the pro version.

Still smacks of profiteering to me.
After all, once the software is done, it costs no more to produce a million CDs of Version XYZ than it does to produce a million copies of XYZ-pro.
