We had this same thread, or topic about 2 years ago. I did find the old thread, but we have a lot of different or new members since the last time around so I guess it is good to start anew.

I work for a large electronics company that is mostly known these days for making cell phones. They make phones with names like Razr, Krazr, Rokr, etc..
I work in the EMC engineering group.
They have sold my business group and soon we will be working for a new company. My job will be the same and in the same place but just with a new company.
If you are not familiar with EMC then here is a link with some explanation.

I use Xara at work sometimes to help in drawing technical diagrams for use in our test procedures and test reports.

I work for a division of one of the major aircraft manufacturing companies drawing aviation maps (instrument flight charts for those who know) in a CAD. On the side I'm a flight instructor and web designer and do a little business designing poker chips (mainly just to pay to get mine made )

I retired from IBM in 1991. I had several different jobs during my thirty-seven years there, e.g., electronics techniciian, test engineer, programmer, systems analyst, programming manager, manufacturing industry specialist, publishing industry specialist. While supporting a wife and three kids I attended classes at night and received a BA in Math and an MS in Computer Science.

After retiring, some friends and I started our own consulting corporation, where I was VP of Systems. After five years we closed the business and I retired again.

Now one morning a week I teach a three-hour class in Computer Science at a local college. I'm also webmaster for several non-profit organizations.

I was born without a "drawing gene ," but I love to fool around with Xara Xtreme Pro for my own amusement. I use some of my "master pieces " in web sites I design or maintain.

We all have different lives, and I suspect different values, politics, etc. but we all have one thing in common. Fascinating.

-Started working as a portrait & caricature artist at Busch Gardens -Williamsburg years ago. Didn't have Xara then....

-Worked at Newport News Shipbuilding for 10yrs, the only shipyard in the US that makes Aircraft Carriers. I was a technical illustrator at the time, eventually getting in to IBM CAD. Drawing everything from Schematics to IPB's. I did a couple submarine paintings, which was the hi-light of my time there. Funny, but one of the paintings was on the NNSB homepage has a credit going to the photographer.... no respect!

-Graphic artist for an interactive Training Software developer. I found Xara during this period which made most of our other software obsolete. This was during the 386-486 phase of the PC evolution. For 10 years I created everything from interface designs to full blown Illustrations or Photo composites. Of course, PC's evolved as did Xara.

-Currently working as the Art Director for a Textile & Print company. Fun work, fast deadlines & generally quick turnarounds. This use to be a Corel shop, but not anymore... thanks to Xara & my hard headedness!
Sometimes we do custom artwork, other times working with customer art, which is more or less good & or bad at times (applies to my art too-usu dependant on time constraints). The worst part of this job is dealing with all Illustrator "mainstream brainwashing". Since we have Illustrator 10, it is often difficult getting art opened. Woops, kind of went on a tangent with AI.

25+ years as an artist, still biking strong & staying stress free... Whenever possible...

Joel a thread like that would probably create more problems and flaming than anything else.

Personal values and politics are too sensitive for any forums and should remain private IMHO.
