When working with Illy for loads of my work I would say to any who puts this on there wish list for the further improvement of Xpro as, OK but I could think of more important features than this. What does nested layers gives you bar an automated way of of placing a new layer. Before any jumps down my throat I know there is more to it than that very handy when using masks (clipview) and there is more to it than that. If you use the Layers palette in a more disciplined way you get the same affect so lets think of really important features that we need.

Have a look at this thread: http://www.talkgraphics.com/showthre...highlight=xara

Everyone has there own uses for Xara so priorities are wide in range, mine is for print, Egg's is for web & Flash and we could go through many other users and get a variety of requests. So as users you would rather see say nested layers rather than the ability to change the colour of a brush with one click, the ability to slice and dice accurately, see where there are problems in a CMYK doc with bitmap effects without out doing all the work arounds or using a terrible align tool.

I don't think anyone disagrees that there are other things that can be improved. It doesn't mean that we can't add our vote to have the layers improved. It's good to see a thread that concentrates on one feature, rather than gets diverted all over the place. I really do find the current layers irritating.

OK Paul you have got my vote as well. But with reservations still want other features first.

In my vote for improved Layers, I like the grouping, but feel it's far more important to show each of the objects in the layer. Just having a group does me no good, but allowing me to select objects within layers, within groups and move them or edit them, now that I like. That, for me, would be relevant for all my work - Print, Flash, Web etc. I think this is more what James was thinking. Somewhat like PS, Illy, and DRAW. Improved Layers, YES, but don't do it half way is what I say.

A vote from me too. Often asked for. Last time I asked for it was Dec 2005 ...

Ideally, grouped layers should allow non-consecutive layers (in terms of layer order).

For me, this is the most important wish list item.
