Default Fitting Linear fill to curve

Not sure if it's possible, however I'm prepared to be told..

[1] Fit (linear) graduated fill/transparencey to curve, so that the graduation follows the curve?

[2] Apply mould to graduated object and have the graduation conform to the new shape (instead of remaining linear)?

    What I've tried:
Create two graduated shapes, blend them, then blend the result to a curved line. Sort of works, except the blends have vertical lines which show up in the print. If I drop the View Quality a notch, the lines disappear, but the shape becomes jaggy - and the jaggies print

I've tried creating a brush from a graduated shape, but brushes simply tile along a path.. Not the effect I'm after.

    Hi Sledger,
Not sure if this is what you wanted to achieve.
I followed what you tried; 2 gradient fills,
    one greeny/yellow, the other pinky/blue,
    blended with 150 steps.
I gave the curve no colour and then blended
    with 500 steps.
I attempted a brush, but like yours, it would
    only tile along a path.
    Saludos,
    Bob.

    Hi Sledger

if this is what you want - you just run the fill or transparency tool from one end of the curve to the other along the line - which must have been converted to shape first of course

Sledger, I'm not aware of any way to have a fill conform to a mould. That would be a good feature to be added to a future version.

When you tried making a brush did you remember to untick the Tile Fills on the Fill Properties tab of the Edit Brush dialog?

more tricky when the edges of the curve are near as there is 'interference' - because its not really following the line of course, its just a linear fill - so need to build the effect by cloning and tweaking

You could try a contour. Contours are very uniform which is good and not good depending on what you are trying to accomplish.

Blends and brushes are another way to go.

Brushes do not have to be small. A brush can really be any size you want.

A rectangular image with repeating linear transparency made into a brush.

Thanks guys, looks like everyone is having some similar results to me. Trying to nail this I'm getting some pretty cool unintended results that will come in handy along the way though !.

CDrw cannot do what I need either.. & a woefully unintuitive app by comparison it is too... (>_<)

So this goes into the Wish List:

Fit (horizontal) linear fill/transparency to curved line
Conform (warp) fill to mould (or shape edit)

With point 1, are you looking for a blend? (It may be applicable to point 2, but I'm too tired to think. It may even be applicable to the transparency.)
