    Two answers for me...

Personal email : I use web based tools (gmail, ISP webmail and hotmail) but also use Outlook Express at home as a kind of storage email device.

Work : Outlook 2003, Outlook Web Access, Push email on my HTC mobile phone (with WinMobile).

I have found that the syncing of Outlook contacts with my mobile phone a fantastic feature and the ability to send and receive emails while mobile is great. However, Windows Mobile is terrible operating system for a phone if you want to use it to make or answer calls!

Thunderbird in plain text only. Not very pretty but safer than reading downloaded e-mails in HTML.

    Both.

Private POP mailfor a trusted few, but then gmail for everything else. I have quite a few custom filters set up and they work quite nicely! You can't beat 8GB of storage, and the file attachment size is very generous. Best of all is the search feature. It can find specific words, or phrases faster than you can do a normal Google search... that is fantastic.

I also like the built in video/chat client they have for the few people I allow to see me online.

I send my regular account thru my Gmail account to clean up the spam
then I read it all in Thunderbird.
