Default Using AI doc in Painter

I have a vector line drawing in Illustrator that I would like to bring into Corel Painter and paint. I am totally new to Painter. Does anyone know if this can be done? If so, how? It's a pretty complex drawing, so I'd like to avoid having to redraw it in Painter if at all possible.

    Thanks!

    Thanks for your reply.

When I try that, my AI files are greyed out. Ideas?

not sure - when you acquire illustrator file, painter should open a dialog box and
.ai files that it can open should display - other files should not show

this is painterX windows XP - are you running something different?

I got it to work! It needs to be an AI EPS file (I just had it saved as a straight AI file).

Thanks for the help. I'm sure I'll be back for more

You've jogged my memory - I think painter only imports ai files up to version .ai8

    Studiokane,

handrawn is correct, the file needs to be AI8 or earlier. Are you intending to edit the vector paths in Painter? That may get pretty cumbersome if the file is very complex.

A good alternative is to "File/Export" the RGB AI file as a layered RGB Photoshop file. Paths, groups and layers will be converted to layers when opened in Painter. Just choose the resolution you need when exporting from AI.
