Default Using three dimension formats in Xtream

    Hi there,
after some time I'm back at the moment trying to get some 3d formats imported to Xtreme like obj or 3ds.
Does anyone know how to get this done? If not within Xara, then maybe you know a tool that may convert these file-formats to wmf or emf???

    Thanks
    Tom

Obj and 3Ds are 3d model files, you can't open them with Xtreme. You will have to get a 3D program and render an image, then you can import the image into Xtreme.

Try this free version of Bryce.

    Its a very nice program.

    Thanks Mike.

Obj and 3ds are 3d formats, I know. I have and use Bryce, Blender, Wings, Poser and Carara....
What I'm looking for is a solution for converting 3d-format-pictures into 2d-format ones. They have to be vector-style, so they still are editable.

Actually I render the images in the 3d-programs and take these pictures into Xtreme. But sumetimes I'd like to make some changes like filtering (with plugIns) or point-manipulating. I don't get this done neither within the 3d prog nor within Xtreme with bitmaps.

A converter for 2d to 3d or reverse would help me a lot.

    Thanks

    Thanks a lot Mike.
I'll have a look at this PlugIn. Maybe this is THE solution for my problem.

    Tom.

I created a 3d in SketchUp. Exported it as a 2D-PDF and then imported that into XPro 3.2.2.

    Hi Tom,

VectorStyle is a nice plugin for Carrara. The only problem is, that the colors are a little bit "dull" (in German: die von VectorStyle generierten Farben sind nicht so ganz originalgetreu, eher ein wenig "matt"). I've tested VectorStyle together with a simple scene and exported a short Flash animation here.

    Regards,
    Remi

Thanks a lot jclements & Remi.

    @
jclements: That's a good idea with the pdf. I'll try that.

@Remi: I've looked at your video. The colors don't matter that much to me while I recolor it in Xtreme anyway.

3D applications like Bryce, Blender, Wings, Poser, Carara, Sketchup and Vue are the solution!

A 2D app like Xara can't give you what you want because a 3D model is just a collection of xyz points in space together with materials to explain what colours and textures the facets described should have. To display a 3D object requires rendering with specific camera position, focal length and exposure, lighting rigs and atmoshere models. How can a 2D app know even what angle you wish your 3D object to be viewed from?

That said, if you want a simply shaded vector graphic then you can't beat Sketchup. Lost Marble's Moho (now Anime Studio?) can also manage something similar in Flash format.

Thanks jwitham for your reply. And I know you're right.
But...in some cases I have the needs to use 3d and 2d as well, just to get the best out of these two worlds. Building the objects in 3d world and using them in 2d-programs (like Xtreme or PowerPoint). The last example is the main reason for my question.
I am making templates for ppoint with different objects that have to be recolored by the user himself. I don't get that with 3d but with simple 2d like emf/wmf.
