joining nodes

I'm trying to join two seperate freehand paths (Corel Draw 12)

It should be easy, but after selecting two end nodes (pressing SHIFT), the 'Extend to curve to close' stay greyed out.

What step am I missing? (Both noes are black, indicating that they are selected)

Can anyone shine light on this very simple task?

Before you can join nodes in separate paths you have to select both paths and apply the "Combine" command. Now you can select the nodes and join them.

That was the missing step. I spent over 2 hours try to join nodes! If only they said that in the help text!
