    Default Learning to use DAZ|Studio

Playing around with DAZ|Studio before getting into learning Bryce.

A basic scene similar to the one in the Getting Started Guide. I added some lights and a camera to get the angle I wanted.

Just some practice creating the scene without following any instructions.

Off to a great start there Bill.

I don't know what lights Daz has, but some point lights and indirect lighting in the background will emphasize shadows and features more. Looks like the light source is just overhead or to the side and not enhancing the scene.

    Thanks James and Mike.

James the first image would have only shown the figure and the background. The area beneath the figure would have been black without the additional lights. I added a spot light to highlight the figures face and upper torso. I added a 'distance light' to have the ground beneath the figure to show up. I also added a 'point light' to have some light on the feet.

I think it was a fairly made image for only having worked with the program for a couple of hours on a Sunday afternoon.

The second image only has the default light and camera. I spent more time working on getting the pant legs corrected and placing buidlings and fountain. For some reason when the pants where attached to Aiko3 they wanted to 'blouse' at her ankles. Since she is wearing boots that reach almost to her knee the ankle is not where the plant leg should be tucked in (bloused as we would say in the military). I ended up having to scale the 'foot' of the pant legs to about 200% so they looked more believable.

Having worked mostly with Cinema 4D and Truespace, the DAZ interface takes some time to get accustomed to using their controls.

Once I feel comfortable working with Daz|Studio, I will tackle learning Bryce 6.1 and creating my own scenery. From the brief glance at the Bryce documentation there are more lighting choices as well as HDRI to add more realism to a scene.

Thanks Gidgit. Finding time to do anything is the hardest part of learning and drawing.

I still play around with Wings3D and found some tutorials for creating props to use within Daz. I have to get back to where I was using Wings about 2 years ago. I lose skills when I can't make time to use a program

I found an old C4D file where I had used Aiko within a room I had created. I was using Poser 4 at that time and could export directly out to a format C4D could import with the textures. I tried that with Daz and I get the geometry but the textures are all the default gray.

I think I can export the figure from Bryce in a format that C4D can import with texture intact. However, I may just export the furnature I created in C4D to a format Bryce can use.

Lots of things to play around with when I have time

Spent most of last night downloading lots of free and not so free Daz content Glad I made the decision to become a Platinum member last week. Already saved enough to pay for the year's membership

Played around some more tonight using some of the great props that are available. Played some more with the lights and setting the shadow parameters.

Hopefully the attachment shows some progress in learning the program
