Can't Install

I have tried 4 times to install Xara Webstyle, It starts the install The progression Bar goes to the end, I waited 20 minutes while it says Xara Webstyle is configuring your new software installation but nothing happens.

I have tried loading from disk and from a fresh download, both do the same thing.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Robroy,

Are you installing on a machine running Vista? If so start the install by right clicking the file's icon and selecting "Run as Administrator".

Thanks for the suggestion, Sledger, but still no avail and not much response from support either.

This is what I have just posted to them:

I saw that Sledger had made a suggestion on the forum and tried that.
Clearing out the temporary files both by hand and using the graphic tool
(it's quite messy as there are lots of directories and attributes to reset)
didn't help. Nor did removing the\Program Files\Common
Files\InstallShield\Professional folder.

So I am still stuck. I tried a downloaded version but this still hangs. I
notice that there is an install item in the system tray that seems stuck at
Clipart Fonts 28%. Could this be to do with the downloaded version? I
didn't see it before but it may have been there.

I've never had any problem installing software before either on my XP box or
an Ubuntu box.

Basically it seems that Webstyle doesn't work!

what exactly do you mean by :

what exactly are you resetting and why - is this following advice from xara support?

Loggy what operating system are you running?

Are you installing from a download or from CD? If you are using a downloaded installer it may be corrupt. Have you tried downloading again?

Did you download or purchase from http://www.xara.com? I ask because there has been another program marketed as Webstyle that has nothing to do with Xara Webstyle.

My problem may have been that I have AVG 8.0 installed so I did a rootkit scan.

It claims that D:\addon\Fonts\XaraFonts.exe has an infection.

D: is my CD of course so removing this from the CD is not very possible!

Anyway after a number of restarts and new downloads, Webstyle eventually installed itself from the downloaded version including the DW extension (I have an ancient copy) which for some reason also includes links to WebStyle 3 and Menumaker, neither of which I have or need (I believe MenuMaker and presumably WS3 are included in WS4) and ScreenMaker which I don't particularly need so will remove it.

I don't think it had anything to do with AVG as it is still running, firewall included.

But whatever it was that made it difficult to install, it was still messy. I presume the downloaded version will not clock out in 15 days - it hasn't asked for me to enter the serial number again...

So now to try an run it!
