Now i found it, i needed to enter the "Brush creator" and then "variants>Restore All Default Variants". Jesus christ, but still, why won't it show? I really want to have the brush selector bar shown.

what may have happened is that the slider bar - see attached image - has been slid over to the right hand edge of the property bar.
To be honest, if this is the case, I know of no way of getting it back other than resetting the complete program to factory default - thereby removing all of your customizations.
Maybe there is a way and someone else can help.
But it may be a bug.
Its worth contacting corel for assistance - they are usually helpful.

Hold down the SHIFT key and start Painter. That will reset everything to default settings that were installed. Since it's real easy to get confused and loose toolbars, etc. when you are new, that will at least get everything back to a default.

BTW-don't worry, in a while, all of this will seem like second nature to you! :-)

Before resetting Painter to the installed state, try this:

Go to the Window menu, choose Arrange Palettes, then click Default in the flyout menu.

That should reset the palette arrangement to the way it was when Painter was installed, and you won't lose any of your custom preferences and custom settings.

After the palettes are all in view, you can rearrange them any way you like, then save your palette layout:

Window > Arrange Palettes > Save Layout and type a name for your custom palette layout, then click the OK button.

Any time you want to restore your custom palette layout:

Window > Arrange Palettes then click the name of your custom palette layout in the flyout menu.

I don't know what was wrong with my program, but i had the same problem of the brushes bar not showing, and when i tried starting painter x with the shift key pressed, it would just crash.

i had version 10.046, then i upgraded to version 10.1, and now it works perfectly; i was able to reset the workspace to get the brushes bar back. and as an added plus, my help files which were previously not working now work fine. if you're having bugs and you're using the older version of painter x, you can download the 10.1 upgrade for free off corel's website:
