Illustrator Control Bar...HELP

I've lost or misplaced the control bar that shows the settings of the present tool selection. I thought that therer was a series of keys that you pressed while Ill. was loading that reset "everything to the default settings, but I can remember what it is.

Could someone please let me know how I can re-display my tool control bar.

Hi Random,
Not sure quite what you mean here but if you call up the last two in the "Edit" menu Preferences & Keyboard Short Cuts you can modify the way Illy opens and what tools that you have. Also in the Keyboard Short Cut pop up on the second on where it states Tools you have the power to edit "Menu Commands" if you highlight that. Don't if this helps please come back if you still have problems but also do have a look in the help files in Illy.

I have tried both of your suggestions to no avail.

I know that when opening Photoshop you can force the "original" default setting to be applied.

I can find no reference in the user guide or the "Help" menu pertaining to how one might turn the "Control" bar on or off.

Had similar problem with GoLive when I wanted to restore default setting and the way Adobe told to do was to delete GoLive's preference settings. Now I checked that the same method can be used in Illy and it can, here's what you do.

DO NOT start Illustrator.

Click on the START menu in the lower left of the screen.
Move up and highlight Search > and then click on "For Files or Folders..."

In the box underneath 'Search for files or folders named:' type in AIprefs
Don't type anything in the box under "Containing Text"

Click on the menu under the words "Look In" and choose Local Hard Drive C:

Then click the "Search Now" button.

When it stops, click on the AIprefs item (the word aiprefs) with your RIGHT mouse button and you'll see a pop-up list and select Delete.

Now you can close the search box and go start your copy of Illustrator and the world will be wonderful again. Please don't come back stating my copy of Illy won't work now as I take no responsibility for the above info just stating that it worked for GoLive.

For future reference, if you load the default workspace (Window - Workspaces - Default) you should get the Control Palette back in place.
