new user help needed

Greets.. I hope this is in the right spot..

New to Xara on Linux and cannot figure out the "create brush" option...

I am trying to work through a tutorial and this part has me stumped. I can see the create brush button on the freehand tool but it is greyed out.

The Xara Xtreme for Linux version development has been on hold for a long while now. Many features of the Windows version have not been added. The Create Brush is one of the missing features.

So is Xara just ignoring the Linux users?

It is more like the Linux community has not wanted to support Xara. Outside Linux developers have not stepped up to help develop the program on the Linux platform. Xara is a small company that cannot support development of an open source version by themselves.

There was some discussion about a branch that uses a different core rendering engine that some Linux developer may be more willing to support, but so far that has not taken place either.


There may be a commercial version of Xara Xtreme available for Linux and the Mac OS sometime in the future. No official word of when that may happen.

Xara Ltd was also acquired by Magix AG recently and the new owners have not announced if they will support the open source version of Xtreme.

I'll keep that in mind....

On a positive note.. I will keep Xara in mind if I ever build a Windows machine. Thanks for your help.
