I had the same problem . it was driving me nuts , I found that some desktop managers force kde . If you go to kde / appearance and themes / colors ... and uncheck apply colors to non kde applications . That fixed it. Some times I have to reset it because as I said some manages force it on to do there thing. Seems Zara cant handle the kde look , and I agree it is gtk at fault , shows in terminal , but even the most recent build wont work with zara and kde on my computer and pclinux t4 . maybe zara needs to be kde intergrated kzara
I too am having the same problem, is there any resolve for this yet? I can't figure out how to update GTK to a newer version (or even check my version of GTK for that matter), if that would even solve it. And I am not using KDE so I don't think my theme is the problem. I even installed Debian and got rid of Ubuntu hoping that might fix the problem, but to no avail.
Is the navbar included in the Linux version?

I did an install of Ubuntu 7,1 (I think, Tribe 5 something??) at work and installed xara aswell (with synaptic)... didnt have any problems... Did your install go smooth or did ya do any 'customizatoins' during the install?
