Norton Internet Security Problem

OK now I am totally bummed!!!!!!!!!!!
I converted the annimated gif to a flash file
uploaded everything and guess what - the ad block blocked that also!
I may have to revert to a boring jpg pic

Aridzone, adblockers work on animations regardless of file type. Most of the adverts I see are flash files. For years I refused to install any flash player because of the adverts. If Xtreme Pro did not offer Flash animations, I would not have flash player plug-in installed.

As for getting around the adblockers so you animation will play, I don't know of a work around that will be easy. Because Microsoft's Silverlight is new, it probably won't trigger adblockers at this time. By the time Silverlight is officially released that my not be the case.

If symantec-norton are as good as they think then it should have a means for you to make exceptions for sites you 'trust'.
This is the case with other software like panda, like ffox/noscript.. and so on....
And it is of course the surfers responsibility to have their machine set the way they want it, can't second guess it, there are all sorts of thing you can install in your browser that will change things too..
I seem to recall that if flash-plugin is not installed there is often a message.
Don't know that its possible in this case?
A fall-back may be the only 'solution' - animation + still, if it can be made to look right?

Just my addition to this debate...

I am still running Norton Internet Security 2005 - but updated - and it runs well. There were a lot of bad reports about 2007, but the latest '360' (guess they got fed up with the date thing) has apparently been re-written and it much less of a resource hog.

I also have F-Secure on another machine; it has had good reviews. It works very quietly - but you almost wonder if it is doing its job!

Glad to know that something is happening at symantec.
Colleague of mine uses F-secure, its bundled with our ISP on introductory offer should you wish.
Never heard any complaints.

just guessing but I can imagine 1 single reason that your animation is not showing:

Domains of website and animation are not the same. That would be an indication its an ad being displayed. If you use standard sizes, the probability goes to 100%.

This can be resolved easily. Talk to your customer to host the animation there. I seriously doubt that any ad blocker will block content from the same domain.

Norton is blocking content from the same domain
And the animation is not a standard ad size, does not have keywords in the address or anything. In fact I was just using it as a button. Solved the problem by adding a side menu.
