    Default PI12 install problem

    Hey GMan and Kiwi,

I downloaded the trial of PI 12 and it ran fine on my computer at work.

But......seems like I saw a big but in my last post too

When I installed the trial on one of my home computers it hangs up showing something about initilizing a resizewindows dll then exits.

Both computers are running Windows XP service pack 2 and both have the same patches and updates.

ULead's support site advises that when you get that dll hangup to set the program to run in Windows 95 compatibility mode.

I would rather not do that if at all possible.

Any ideas from our resident PI people?

Oh, BTW the computer at home was upgraded from Windows 2000 to XP and the one at work was a clean install of XP.

    Bill,
I was reading only yesterday on PIRC, a post where one of the members there was saying that for some reason, running in "95" compatibility mode was the only way that she could get things working properly for some reason.
I will go back there later and try to find the relevant posts.
Yesterday, I decided to get my older, slower pc out of retirement from a box in the back room and give my newer pc a well earned rest for a while.
First thing I did was to install Xara Pro and also PhotoImpact 12 on it (both from CD, full version)
After a few hours of playing in both programs, there have been absolutely no problems (errors or crashes) with either software even though the pc is only an Athlon 1.8 XP home with 512 ram and 2 years of cobwebs, mould etc residing inside the box.

I have found PI 12 to be by far the best version of Photo Impact (IMHO)

Do you know that Ulead/Corel are now asking people what they would like to see in the next version? (There is a post on PIRC asking for ideas/preferences)

    Kiwi,
Thanks for all your help. I'm going to try cleaning up my registry and do a clean install of PI12 again. If that doesn't work the compatibility mode will let me try to program.

I may try PI 12 on my Vista machine. That is after I get through with re-installing. I've been using the RC1 release and it will expire in June so I'm installing the full version now.

    Bill,
If you're going to try PI 12 on Vista, you may need this patch.

Need to sign in to get this.
    Good luck

Thanks Kiwi. If I get Vista installed again. I think the hard drive in that computer has died. Too bad as the warranty expired last month.

I setup compatibility mode on my XP machine to run the program. It does load, but if I attempt to do anything it crashes. Maybe this is a sign I don't need the program

Better idea. It is a sign to upgrade my computer
