    Default Bitmap applied to a line?

    Hi:
    Is there a way to apply a bitmap from the gallery only to a line? I want to be able to leave the fill transparent and have the bitmap show only on the line. I also have a workaround if not, but it would save time if I could.
    Thanks,
    Scott

    Only way I know of is to
    • put the bitmap inside a vector container shape, rectangle, sphere, etc
    • convert that vector container to editable shape
    • conform it to the line and then no line or shape color on container
    • apply clipview of the bitmap shape to the vector container shape.

    Draw your shape with no fill, convert the line to a shape and fill it.

    "Intbel" ... "Can't" is not an option.

    Compliance is futile. Resistance is futile. Just do your own thing an' ignore 'em.

    You CAN apply clipview to a simple unclosed line in Xara.

    Try this :

    1 Draw a line with any width and without closing the shape ;
    2 Import a bitmap in front of this line ;
    3 Select all
    4 Apply ClipView

    That's all !!!

    The only thing is that if you want apply a feather to this line you must go by live effects/bitmap feather.

    kindly,

    Default If you want apply it to a line around shape

    No need to convert the line to shape.

    Simply select a point with the Shape Editor Tool and Break the shape at this point.

    Of course you may keep a second filled copy of your shape in the background if you want.

    Take a look also at this topic : http://www.talkgraphics.com/showthread.php?t=1279

    Thanks Ivan:
    Everyone has given me a lot of ideas to play with.
    You know that Xara Xtreme Linux doesn't have XPE, so the other post you referred me to may require some transposing? I'll work with other imaging programs and see if I can accomplish the same thing.

    Thanks Shaman,

    I was wrong when I said "The only thing is that if you want apply a feather to this line you must go by live effects/bitmap feather." Feathering works without that. I forgot my own experiments with feathering and Clip View here : http://talkgraphics.com/showthread.php?t=14586

    For clipping view with a line you don't need XPE. That's only if you want apply some effects to the bitmap. However, that would be sweet if XaraLX could be compatible with the Gimp filters and effects.
