    Default can't draw on layers

Hello, my friend has a problem where she can make layers but can't draw on them. She uses Painter 9.5. Her transparency level is 100%, the canvas is below the layer, the layer is not locked. These are things we confirmed.

I had her uninstall Painter 9.5, delete the Corel directory, and reinstall it. She still has the same problem.

I have Painter 8. I had her install it and she still has the same problem. Any help is much appreicated. Thanks ahead of time.

It could depend on which brush she is using or a number of other factors - can you do a screen dump and post here.

    Hi,

My response to your question in the Conceptart.org Painter forum:

    1. Restore all brush variants in the currently loaded brush library to their default state (Brush Selector menu > Restore All Default Variants)

    2. Some brush variants only work on existing color, so if you try to paint on a new entirely transparent Layer or on transparent areas of a Layer, nothing happens. In the Brush Controls' General palette, check to make sure the brush variant does not use either Method: Drip or Method: Plugin. Those are brush variants that only work on existing color.

    Hi,

I launched Painter IX.5, restored all brush variants to their default state, chose the Pencils' Grainy Pencil 5, made the brush control adjustments shown in the screen print, made sure the Preserve Transparency box was not checked, chose the color seen in the screen print (in the Color Info palette), created a Layer, then drew on it. No problem.

Then I noticed in the screen print, the Layer was not set to Gel which is the automatic Composite Method when we begin drawing on a new Layer with this brush variant. I tried drawing again with the Layer set to Default and still no problem.

    I'm outa ideas for now.

Try the suggestions I made above and you may find the problem is solved.

    Good luck!

I tried it with your setting and get the same result - no paint.

Ginny - it is the greasy pencil 5 not grainy pencil 5.

This pencil acts acts like a blender and needs some paint to work on.

It's Jinny not Ginny - the Greasy Pencil 5 uses Method: Drip.

    And..

Thanks, I needed that. Your eyes are better than mine, Christine!

That it does (work like a blender), more or less. It works like brush variants in the Distortion category many of which use Method: Drip, to "mess up" or distort pixels.

    Here's a demo:

    3. check your expressions in the brush controls
    4. make sure you're not drawing with the eraser
