Thanks to many of you, Raymond, Egg, Bill--and especially Sally, I got up the nerve to post my very first Flash animation made with XXPro.

"Intbel" ... "Can't" is not an option.
Compliance is futile. Resistance is futile. Just do your own thing an' ignore 'em.
Now you have your feet wet, you can find out all kinds of adventures you can have with Xara.
Every day's a new day, "draw" on what you've learned.

Thanks, Raymond...it was after midnight when I finished this, and I used clipview on the left, but forgot to do it on the right...
For the horizontal blingthing (I can't think of a better name for it than that either), does anyone know how to make it flare? I tried feathering, but Flash doesn't support that.
And Sally, thanks for the encouragement. I still have much to learn, like how to make things rotate properly, etc., but I'm having so much fun with Xara that I'm actually totally neglecting my oils and watercolors...sigh...

Will, very nice for your first flash animation.
Try using circular transparency instead of feathering for the flare.
1. Circle with circular transparency 100% center 100% perimeter
2. Circle with circular transparency 50% center 100% perimeter
3. Circle with Circular Transparency 0% center 100% perimeter
4. Circle with circular transparency 100% center 100% perimeter

Bill...
Thanks a lot! I will definitely be playing with these flares.
This version uses circular transparency on the moving ellipse, and clipview on the right-hand side as Raymond suggested.
One sort of neat effect I stumbled on by accident (wish I could claim brilliance, but everyone here would know better ). Notice that the ellipse starts out wide, tapers to be very narrow, then widens again?
This happens when I inverted the ellipse. As it tweens, it shrinks then expands again!

According to the Help file Clipview does not work with Flash. Quote:
Limitations:
Some Xara Xtreme features do not exist in the Macromedia Flash format:
Bitmap fills. Flash does not support repeat inverted tiling. Other fill features export correctly.
Conical fills, Diamond fills, Three-color fills, Four-color fills. These are simulated as they do not have an exact equivalent in Flash.
Brush stroking of lines.
Feathering.
Arrow heads and dash patterns on lines.
ClipView
You can export rollover buttons but only with one object as the button design. (That is, you cannot create rollover buttons with text on them.)
If you have overlapping bitmaps with transparency, you may find the colors brighten or 'solarize'.
Sorry the Help is wrong. Clipview does work and is a very important tool for Flash animation. Anywhere you require objects to come in from the side or top, or to shoot off, or to enlarge outside your main frame - that's when you'd use Clipview.
