Brand new user...help!

I just found out about Xara on my SimplyMepis 6.0 linux distro. I need something to introduce me to it as I do not even know the names of the buttons. Have not used any graphics package outside of Visio. Can someone tell me the best source of "very basic" documentation? All of the tutorials I check out use names of buttons or features that I do not even know where to click. So I am lost. For example I cannot even figure out how the layers work or how to cut out something and paste it into a new window. Best suggestions for an absolute beginner getting started??

Gary Priester has provided excellent tutorials and information about Xara programs for years.

The information is written for the Windows versions, but the Linux version is being developed to work the same as the Window Xara Xtreme release. Not all features have been developed for Linux at this time, but development should resume after the release of the Windows version of Xara Xtreme Pro which is currently in Beta release.

An on-line manual that explains each tool and how it can be used can be found in the webxealot series of articles. Click the link and beginning with issue 16 and through issue 35 or 36 the tools are explained.

Gary's workbooks also have information as the program has advanced. Workbook 41 explains the new features added with the release of Xara Xtreme.
